I-35E Cayuga Bridge Reconstruction Project

The Cayuga Project is located on I-35E between University Avenue and Maryland Avenue in Saint Paul, MN. The project included the reconstruction and realignment of a 3-mile segment of I-35E and replacement of thirteen bridges. Among the significant improvements, a new Gateway Trail and Trillium Trail will be constructed in collaboration with the DNR and the City of St. Paul. HZ United provided comprehensive engineering services in drainage and environmental compliance for the project from preliminary design, to EIS support, final design, and design support during construction from 2010 to 2016. HZ United provided recommendations for multi-use trail improvements along the water features of the 3-mile corridor. Detailed work related to trail development that were worked on included design of flood elevations, watercourse crossings, and trail shoulder improvements for safety and aesthetic considerations.
